Ginette Legaré’s exhibition, A canary in the mind, continues the artist’s sculptural exploration of objects through their intrinsic relationship to language and perception. Here materials and manufactured goods, beyond their outlived usefulness, are playfully disassembled and reconfigured, expanding the reach of what is found and what is seen. And this inevitably connects them to what has been said, is said, or can be said about them. It is in these implicit dialogues that Legare’s works seek a fruitful meeting of “meanings”, an awareness of the absent in its transformed presence — an essential part of the mining of human longings, languages and “knowledges” that are parts of day-to-day thoughtfulness and breathing.
