MKG127 is pleased to present A Tangent Line Gently Touching Coins
An exhibition of new work by Micah Adams

On view March 25 – April 22
Opening Saturday, March 25, 2 – 5 PM

In this exhibition, Adams presents new works including sculpture, jewellery and drawings based on a continued interest in coins and other everyday materials and objects. In particular, a collection of animals found on world coins have been cut out and recombined.

In addition to these collages, there will be a collection of spontaneous sculptural mashups of familiar objects gathered from day-to-day life such as coins, cutlery, tin cans and other bits of steel hardware. This collection was developed as a direct result of using a laser welder, a tool which allows Adams to explore new possibilities in materials and construction techniques, possibilities that had previously not been attainable through hand construction alone.

Micah Adams is a collector of objects as much as he is a maker. He collects, alters and reassembles found objects. Adams works in deliberate contrast to high tech modes, preferring the intimacy of developing his own repertoire of manual techniques. Originally from Nova Scotia, he studied at CÉGEP John Abbott College in Montréal and has a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax (2008). Adams has been an Artist in Residence at Harbourfront Centre’s Metal/Jewellery studio (2008-2011). He has also participated in visiting artist programs at Open Studio (Toronto, ON), the Museum of Glass (Tacoma, WA), the Klondike Institute of Art and Culture (Dawson City, YT), and Gros Morne Nation al Park (Woody Point, NL). Adams’ work is in private and corporate collections including Fidelity Investments, Microsoft, Scotiabank, and TD Bank. He currently lives and works in Toronto.
