MKG127 is pleased to present Birds in Paradise,
an exhibition of new work by David R. Harper.

There are moments when people struggle to hold onto something — to still time — in order to observe, to document, and to understand. However, in certain cases, these seemingly investigative impulses ultimately lead to the subject’s ruin. In his third solo exhibition at MKG127, David R. Harper employs sculpture, tapestry, and embroidery, to explore the tenuous trajectory of best intentions, natural history and idealized habitats.

David R. Harper (b. Toronto, ON) completed his BFA at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Sculpture before pursuing an MFA in Fiber and Material Studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He has had numerous Solo exhibitions in Canada and the United States including Skin and Bone at the Textile Museum of Canada, Plateau at the South Bend Museum of Art and Entre Le Chien et Le Loup organized by the Doris McCarthy Gallery in partnership with the Kitchener Waterloo Art Gallery, The Kederdine Art Galley, The Ottawa Art Gallery, and Saint Mary’s University Art Gallery. He has exhibited work in group exhibitions at the National Gallery of Canada and MASS MoCA amongst others. Harper’s upcoming projects include a residency with the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, and an exhibition in which he will build a natural history museum within a museum titled Memory Theater. In 2014 Harper was a recipient of a Efroymson Fellowship. His work can be found in the collections of the National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and the Frederick R. Weisman foundation in LA amongst others.
