For her second solo exhibition at MKG127Roula Partheniou presents a new series of objects that range from the vaguely to the eerily familiar. Continuing her interest in material game-playing and the double-take, she reinterprets the replica with several degrees of verisimilitude. Through the use of material puns, colour cues, visual similes, trompe l’oeil and reductive referents, Partheniou deconstructs the familiar, creating a multi-layered tangle of perception and knowledge.

Roula Partheniou’s work is marked by a concern for marriage of material and form and is drawn together by a strong sense of both logic and play. Recent exhibitions include Circular Logic at Cambridge Galleries, Cambridge; Remakes at YYZ Artist’s Outlet, Toronto; a collaboration with Micah Lexier titled Works, Works 1, Twice for *Queen Specific, Toronto. Recent group and two-person shows include A to B at MKG127, Toronto; Literally at Artspeak, Vancouver; Fall In/Out at Blackwood Gallery, Mississauga; Infinite Egress at Surrey Art Gallery, Surrey; The Form Itself at Priska C. Juschka Fine Art, New York and an upcoming show at Truck Gallery, Calgary. Further examples of her work can be seen at www.roulapartheniou.com.
