Through the production of a new series of drawings and sculptures, New Systems Require New Structures examines how we shape and are shaped by urban architectural systems. This new body of work focuses on city systems and built structures, their interaction with each other and the new configurations that are formed.

Sara Graham received her MFA from the University of Guelph in 2006 and her BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1997. Her interest is in the philosophical, practical and political aspects of the design and depiction of cities through urban and suburban cartographies and topologies. Graham’s practice involves the blurring of representation within and between the disciplines of art, architecture, urban design and geography exploring concepts of authenticity and inauthenticity, materiality and intangibility, fact and fiction. The development of her work over the last few years has centred on explorations on geographic fictions that involves the investigation of city systems and networks.

Graham has exhibited across Canada with recent exhibitions at the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery, The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery in St John’s, the Confederation Centre Art Gallery in Charlottetown, The New Gallery in Calgary, YYZ Artists’ Outlet in Toronto, Articule in Montreal. She also produced a large scale project for Toronto’s Nuit Blanche in 2007. Further examples of Sara Graham’s work can be seen at: www.citymovement.ca
