Bear Minimum – MKG127

In Bear Minimum, Dean Drever continues his examination of power and violence. Whereas previous work has examined power and violence within the military and criminal subcultures, Bear Minimum examines these concepts in nature.
The focus of this exhibition is the Kodiak which along with the polar bear is one of the largest members of the bear family. Bears have no natural predators, reinforcing concepts of supremacy and the constitution of power.
Drever is a member of the Haida Nation and Haida culture acknowledges the bear as an embodiment of a supreme being having both extraordinary physical and supernatural powers.
