MKG127 is pleased to announce the participation of
Dean Drever and Dave Dyment in Villa Toronto.
A roving art event that moves from city to city every couple of years, the VILLA project works with international art galleries to create a temporary, ongoing art community. From January 16-23, VILLA TORONTO presented an exhibition of contemporary art at Union Station’s Great Hall.
MKG127 presented Dean Drever‘s Pass the Hat at VILLA TORONTO. Pass the Hat (2014) reconstitutes traditional totem pole construction through contemporary industrial processes. It does the same with industrial and digital processes by transposing culture’s subordination to technology. In this way it encompasses and addresses changing practices and points to the interpenetration of industry and culture, imagination and reason. Pass the Hat (paper) communicates the ephemeral and lasting nature of ideology and narrative.
Dave Dyment was commissioned to create a poster published especially for VILLA TORONTO by C Magazine. Los Angeles as Toronto as Chicago was available on the opening night on-site at Union Station and was the first in a series of 6 artist posters.
