K.Nicol every3point65

MKG127 is pleased to present every3point65,
an exhibition of new work by K.Nicol.

February 15 - March 15, 2014

K. Nicol's third solo exhibition at MKG127 derives its title from a blog that he started on January 1st 2013 and updated every 3.65 days resulting in exactly one hundred entries in a year. An offshoot of his last solo exhibition at MKG127, hundreds of things vol.1, the blog reports directly from Nicol's studio or as he likes to call it "Ken's world". The exhibition is a physical realization of the blog with each work in the show corresponding to a numbered blog entry.

K. Nicolís work is marked by an obsession with collecting and turning everyday objects into artworks. He creates objects from start to finish by mundane repetition over countless hours. His process is methodical, laborious and time consuming. The diverse materials he uses range from small dead bugs collected from his studio windowsill to grid paper, index cards, coffee cups, potato chips and salt packets. Elements of his work include drawing, typing, metalwork, counting and writing.

K. Nicol is a Toronto-based interdisciplinary artist who has exhibited in New York, Winnipeg, Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto. He recently exhibited at the McMaster Museum of Art in Hamilton and at Scrap Metal in Toronto. He was also included in the exhibition Micah Lexier: One, and Two, and more than Two at the Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery in Toronto. Nicolís last exhibition at MKG127, hundreds of things vol.1 received attention from the Toronto Star, Globe and Mail, National Post and Border Crossings magazine.
