Monica Tap New Work

MKG127 is pleased to present An Exhibition
of New Work by Monica Tap.

May 1 - 31, 2014

The route of the Camino Frances extends 800 km across the north of Spain, and in 2012 Monica Tap undertook to walk its length. At one point in this long trip, she stopped to document a 50 metre segment through a woods because, according to Tap, the width of that forested corridor was the same as the width of the MKG127 gallery.

This moment of passage is translated into six large paintings in the main gallery.

With this new work, she continues her investigations of what is seen and not seen as we move through the landscapes that witness our passage.

Monica Tap is an artist whose many activities involve exploring questions of time and representation in painting. Her canvases have been exhibited in Canada, England and the USA. She is the recipient of many grants and awards, including the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada for her project, “Translation as a Strategy of Renewal in Painting.” Tap's work is represented in collections including the Donovan Collection at the University of Toronto, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, the Alberta Art Foundation and significant corporate collections. Originally from Alberta, she completed both her BFA and MFA degrees at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. She lives in Toronto and is a Professor at the School of Fine Art and Music at the University of Guelph.
