Dave Dyment Hourglass Sand in the Vaseline

MKG127 is very pleased to present in the front space,
A Googled History of Domestic Furnishings by Toronto artist Gwen MacGregor.

November 24 - December 22, 2012

In MKG127's front space, Gwen MacGregor will be presenting a photo series entitled A Googled History of Domestic Furnishings first exhibited in Berlin earlier this year. In eight photographic compilations, ordinary objects such as a bed or a shower are represented through a sequential visual history. All images have been downloaded from the internet using Google.

Gwen MacGregor is a Toronto artist working in installation, video and photography. Her art reflects her close observation of time and place and how they shape small dramas or uncannily familiar situations. Everything from found objects to video clips are given equal weight and value and are edited and transformed into installation, video and photography through a time consuming, meticulous process. The resulting artworks have a quiet politic that celebrates the slow discovery and transformation of the ordinary moment to reveal its uncommon value.
In 2001 her work was presented in the Present Tense project series at the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto. MacGregor's work has also been shown in many exhibitions across Canada and Europe as well as Los Angeles, Mexico City, Shanghai, and Sydney, Australia. In 2003 she was the recipient of the Toronto Friends of the Visual Arts Artist Prize. Her work is in a number of collections including the Art Gallery of Ontario, Artbank, and the Royal Bank Collection. Recent exhibitions include participation in Manifest d’Art 5 in Quebec City, The Santa Fe International New Media Festival and Dystropia at the Queens Museum, New York.

MKG127 is located in Toronto at 1445 Dundas St. West between Dufferin St. and Gladstone Ave. Hours are Wednesday to Saturday from 12 to 6 PM or by appointment. For more information call 647-435-7682.
