In Out of Line Kristiina Lahde continues her on-going exploration of found materials. In this most recent body of work Lahde places lines on new paths so that they bend and break away from conventions. Humble things found in libraries and offices such as index cards, carbon paper, file folders, paper clips and rulers are re-imagined and given alternate forms. Found lines are duplicated, repeated and connected so that they spiral, bend, drape and slice. Lahde’s approach breathes new life into objects that are often overlooked, allowing for a formal and poetic reflection on process, labour and use. The artist provides fuel for a slow-burning speculation about the everyday and how objects and forms might otherwise be regarded in our world.

Kristiina Lahde is an artist whose conceptual practice focuses on material investigation and process. Lahde received her BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD) in 1999. Earlier in 2018 Lahde’s solo exhibition, In and Out of Order, was presented at OBORO in Montreal, curated by Claudine Hubert. She has exhibited at The Koffler Gallery, The Power Plant and at La Biennale de Montréal. Lahde was a long list nominee for the Sobey Art Award in 2013. Kristiina’s works are held in several private and public collections. Kristiina will be presenting her first curatorial project titled Message in a Bottle at Zalucky Contemporary, in Toronto opening July 2018.
