White Condo – MKG127

White Condo is an installation that encompasses video, sculpture and photography. The work examines interstitial and overlapping relationships between science fiction and condo living to explore the anxieties of ubiquitous monitoring and mediation.

In this hyper-real age of simulated imagery and self-curated surveillance, metaphors of authenticity and duplication reveal a particular uncanny character. Theorists like Virilio have interrogated the ways in which contemporary seeing modifies experience, encouraging the extreme desire for other worlds and, essentially, for disappearance itself. White Condo is an ironic attempt to contribute to this complex terrain, a satiric project for exploring the multitude of possibilities that we humans attempt to individualize ourselves in our increasingly technological environments.

Geoffrey Pugen explores relationships between real and staged performance, the natural and the artificial, and tensions of virtuality, through altering and manipulating image material. Working with video, performance, sculpture and photography, Pugen renders situations that examine our perceptions of how history, documentation, and simulation intersect. His videos and art have been exhibited nationally and internationally. He is a recipient of the K.M. Hunter Award for Interdisciplinary art. White Condo is his second solo exhibition at MKG127.
