In her latest exhibition at MKG127 Beyond Measure, Kristiina Lahde tampers with systems of measurement. Fragmentation, pattern and chance are reflected in the processes of this diverse group of new works. Lahde re-works everyday materials with mathematical precision that transforms them into perverse geometric constructions, releasing them from their utilitarian origins. The exhibition also includes her latest Dice series, which connects elements of chance to a process of replication and reversal. Lahde introduces a new series of paper works that incorporate a controlled process of blind faith. The combination of control and chance, precision and happenstance embedded in Lahde’s work paradoxically acknowledges that you need a system to be random.

Kristiina Lahde received her BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in (Halifax, NS) in 1999. Lahde works in collage, sculpture and installation. In 2011, her work was featured in the 7th edition of La Biennale de Montréal. She has recently been awarded a Creation Grant from the Canada Council for the Arts and a Mid-Career Grant from the Ontario Arts Council. She will be participating in a residency at Open Studio (Toronto, ON) in Fall 2012.
