In the middle of the summer of the hottest year on record, MKG127 turns up the heat with new works by Adam David Brown, Dean Drever, Dave Dyment, Sky Glabush and Ken Nicol.

Adam David Brown‘s first solo exhibition at MKG127, White Noise during February & March, 2009, garnered international attention with coverage on Artforum.com. It was soon after, that he was awarded the 2009 Toronto Friends of the Visual Arts Artist Prize. Since then Adam’s work has also proven to be a highlight at auctions such as Art with Heart and the Canadian Art Hop among others. Adam’s next solo exhibition at MKG127 is scheduled for September 2011.

Dean Drever‘s first solo exhibition at MKG127, Bear Minimum in August 2008 featured a life sized fluorescent yellow fuzzy Kodiak. The exhibition attracted much media attention and was very popular with the public.
When the Kodiak was later shown in an exhibition at the Lester B. Pearson Building in Ottawa, it was so popular that the Federal government decided they wanted to keep it. Since then Dean’s Kodiaks have made appearance’s at the Toronto Sculpture Garden, the Vancouver Olympics and the Prime Minister’s office at the G8 summit in Huntsville. Dean’s next solo exhibition at MKG127 is scheduled to open in February, 2011. It will not contain any bears.

Soon after Dave Dyment‘s first solo exhibition at MKG127, Room Tone in January 2008, he was invited to participate in the prestigious residency program at the Glenfiddich distillery in Scotland. It was at this program that Dave created his 100 year old whiskey edition, A Drink To Us (When We’re Both Dead) which has proven to be popular with both collectors of art and whiskey. Dave returned to work dealing with music, film and television in his second solo exhibition at MKG127, Between The Click of The Light And The Start Of The Dream during April & May of 2010.

Sky Glabush‘s first solo exhibition at MKG127, Renting during January & February, 2009 was the subject of an interview with Robert Enright in the following issue of Border Crossings. Soon after, he was commissioned by the Bank of Montreal to produce two new paintings. He has an upcoming solo exhibition at the Art Gallery of Windsor in January, 2011 and his next solo exhibition at MKG127 is scheduled for May, 2011.

Ken Nicol developed quite a following during his first solo exhibition at MKG127, A Room Full of Stuff I Made (And Collected) which took place during March & April, 2009. He has gained a reputation as an artists’ artist. Murray Whyte, the Toronto Star’s art writer picked his exhibition at MKG127 as one of the year’s top 5 exhibitions, the only one in a commercial gallery to make the list. Ken’s next solo exhibition at MKG127 is scheduled for October 2011.

And by the way, MKG127 is air-conditioned.
