For her solo exhibition at MKG127, Joy Walker has created a series of large, unique silkscreen prints that take as their subject matter a small, simple rectangular box. The box was the packaging for a homeopathic remedy recommended for increasing energy and vitality, and each of Walker’s spare, sensitive prints plays with the many possibilities of deconstructing and reconstructing this 3-D object. Using a repeat pattern system – and deviations from this system – Walker has created a rigorous suite of images that play with subtle variations of the box form in line, shape and colour.
Around the same time, there was noticeable improvement in Joy’s energy.
Originally from Montreal, Joy Walker is an artist living and working in Toronto. She is interested in the appropriation of everyday objects, and the process of re-describing these items by using a system of textile design conventions.
Recent exhibitions include, Variety at Convenience Gallery, Toronto, For Example at MSVU Art Gallery, Halifax, and Titles, a traveling artist book exhibition.
Joy is also the programmer of QueenSpecific, the window beside Dufflet.
